so i did my first feis in a LOooooong time 2 weekends back. now... its been a while but i have never NOT placed in a feis. even on a bad day i've at least picked up a 3rd in one of the dances...
but this feis? nada.
i'm back from an extremely serious 3rd degree ankle sprain and one of the judges comments was heels more up... which i know is direct result of my injury . its noticable that i can get higher on my left than i can on my right...
i've done the heel lifts exercises but i wonder if i am doomed to be uneven now?? :( my PT is all done and over with for months now which is why i am back to feis
the other injury i have is a herniated disk in my neck. its been very sore lately which has made practice very difficult.
is it time to hang up my shoes? I DONT WANT TO!
i want to improve and achieve my goal of open champs. i am 2 1sts away from prelim... but i feel i am at a loss as to what to do to improve/stay uninjured...
So go for it!
But go - and not rush!
Listen to your body!
If you know, that one foot is weaker than the other at the moment, you don`t need to be sad or upset, that you didn`t place - you know th reason! That is very important - you know where to work on. So take your time to practise getting back in shape and take every feis as an experiance - and not as an ultimate measure wether to stop or not. Getting comment sheets and the feis results may help you identifying your progress of recovery - but for sure, they are not the only ones.
Talk to your teacher about your thoughts. He/she may pay more attention to your worries and help you to come over it.
Wishing you all the best with reaching your goal
Don't worry about your results! I know it can be quiet tough if ya used to getting placed and all- but you shouldn't stress yourself abou it. So what- it wasn't your best feis but hey, ya bk to dancing!
If you don't want to hang up your shoes then you have to take it easy for a nother couple of weeks and take your time. You have to be really carefull now! Injuries are a serious topic and you shouldn't ignore your health, because (I know it's tough but) health comes first!!
Don't stress yourself about getting your first places- you will see if you take it easy for a while and still do competitions for fun and stop thinking about getting to first place you'll be surprised about how well you gonna do!
When practicing you really have to listen to your body- if it says "Hey, that was too much- I need a break" take a break! relax! and maybe practice more often but not longer!
Hope this helps!
Let me know how ya doing!
Answer only one question, just for yourself - do YOU WANT to dance?
that is only that matters.
heels, toes, can't jump high enough (oops that's mine headache) mean nothing if you want.
I had 11 months break for pregnancy with muscle relaxing pills for all that time. when i return to dance i could hardly do a simple treble. now my child is 2 year old, and i'm not fully back in form. but I see the difference between now and year ago.
you had a serious reason to loose your shape. but you have a great advantage over newcomers - you know exactly that you can be at high level. you already was there.
just be careful to avoid another trauma.
Hold on =)))
thank you so much to everyone for the encouragement. i guess i was just feeling super down from having such a bad outing. I'm working on more strengthening and my Dr has given me another perscription for physical therapy which i will re-start next week.
in order to get myself motivated, I've taken out trophies and medals to put by my mirror where I practice technique (up on toes, crossed feet etc) and I got a pic from the feis of me in my lovely competition dress. If i want to wear it again I have to get back up to speed.
thanks also for the person who mentioned feis doesn't have to be about winning... its about having fun and loving dance which i do dearly..
you are all the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
