Kaysey Aguilar replied to the discussion 'heyy! what dancing school r u from and your grades???'
"I'm 19, and I've been dancing for less than a year now. Unfortunately, the closest Irish dance school in South Texas is 2 hours away from where I live; consequently, I am trying to teach myself. I'll probably never compete or be as…"

Kaysey Aguilar replied to the discussion 'What would you like to see in a book about Irish dancing?'
"Any and all information you can find on the history of Irish dance would be GREAT! I've googled and searched at my library to no avail - it's really hard for me to find one good, solid, information-dense, reliable source of Irish dance…"

Kaysey Aguilar replied to the discussion 'Traditional or Modern?'
"Definitely traditional. I know that styles change and that's fine, but I've always been a traditionalist. In everything, really - books, art, public figures, clothes, society - I favor things from the past. That being said, I appreciate…"

Kaysey Aguilar replied to the discussion 'Girls and boy's costumes'

Kaysey Aguilar commented on the blog post 'Organization Rivalry- Why?'
"I'm relatively new to Irish dance, and I've tried researching the difference between An Coimisiun and An Comhdhail, but I still can't really see the big difference between the two. Why do people favor one over the other?"

Late Starters with Big Dreams

Some of us aren't lucky enough to have found Irish dancing  when we were young. Yet we still found our way into dancing, and have started competing. Late starters can have big dreams, and they have the ability to live them.See More

"http://www.angelfire.com/ky/lotd/info/dances.html I found this website that gives a pretty good idea as to which dances are learned first and how they differ from each other. I hope it helps!"

Profile Information

I am a ...
Dancer
About me
In a nutshell:
Nineteen. Never danced or played sports before. Teaching myself. Is in love with Irish Dance. Is a complete and utter beginner.
Beyond dance, is an oil-painter, watercolorist, and ocarinist.

In a coconut shell:
I'm the person who never danced. I was once quite literally dragged onto a dance-floor by well-meaning friends. Right before college, I decided that I really did want to learn how to dance, but I didn't want to learn Ballroom - it felt too . . . normal? It was what everybody did. So I Youtube'd different forms of dance and instantly fell in love with Irish dance. It was everything I didn't know I had been looking for - unique, gorgeous, intricate, and demanding. I thought my love for it was a temporary infatuation; also, the timing (college was starting, I had a demanding course of study) seemed to discourage picking up a hobby. However, a year later, I still have an undiminished desire to learn Irish dance.

So, here I am. Nineteen years old, no sports or dance background, no teacher (the nearest school is 2 hours away), and nothing but the internet and diddlyi learn to go by. I highly doubt I'll ever be able to join a school or compete in a feis, and, more likely than not, I'll probably get some terrible injury, but that's more than okay by me. My goal is to have fun, push myself to become the best Irish dancer I can be, develop a better understanding of the musculoskeletal system, learn more about a fascinating culture, and meet people who love Irish dance as much as I do.

Wow. That "about me" section became much longer than I intended . . .
What Irish things do I play, dance, say, sing or other:
Play - I'm going to learn to play the Tin Whistle.
Dance - Irish stepdance, or course! :D
Say - "Hooligan" It's my favorite lame insult and is of Irish origin. Yeah, I don't say much Irish-related stuff. :(
Sing - My voice is awful; you don't want to hear me sing.

Wow, I just noticed that I don't do a lot of "Irish" things. :/
Favorite Music
Irish - The Corrs, The Chieftains, Celtic Woman
Dancing School / Group
None, unfortunately.
Dancing Level
Is there a level below complete beginner? I think I'm at that level.
How many years have you been Irish dancing?
1/12th year
Favourite Irish Dance Show
Riverdance. Definitely Riverdance. Lord of the Dance was more theatrical, but I felt that Riverdance had more heart.
I love this about Irish Dancing:
It is unique, outrageously fun, and can be undertaken by any age group.

but anyways- thats the way I learned it nd how I'm teaching it: Beg reel, beg light jig,beg single jig, beg slip jig nd then the heavys or prim reel first depends on the dancers :) basically it doesnt make THAT much of a difference but I think it's a gd order as the steps repeat themselves as well yano!!

welcome to didlyi!
I love your "about me" section :) I think it's really interesting and impressing!
So what is it that you love about Irish dancing so much that you'd be teaching yourself?
