Queen Maeve School in Saskatchewan

I love reading your articles, especially "Do Irish dance solo dresses & wigs distract the audience from a great performance?'

The reason I chose the school I did is because they don't push students to go into feisanna or buy solos. Full wigs are ban during school performances, and if you don't want to rent a school dress you just wear blacks.

I love that it's strictly about the dancing!

i am thinkin of travelling to your schools feis coming up... is it a long way from the airport? i love to travel around for competitions bc i get to see new places and meet new people, etc but sometimes its hard when the place where the feis is not close to the airport if you're coming from far away :)

I just read your article "Do Irish dance solo dresses & wigs distract the audience from a great performance?'  and i am glad as an adult dancer i am not the only one who feels this way. I have recently gone back to Irish Dance after a break of almost 15years .. as a 29 year old I am not as keen to get back into competing because of the costumes and attire that is now the norm for competition. Although many of the costumes are beautiful I do feel that often when watching a dancer (esp in competition) you can not help but notice the dress and hair more than the steps... i guess we can only see if in the coming years if there are other options introduced esp for adult dancers.

I just read your new article in the magazine about the dance show.  Will you write about how it goes?  Everything sounds so exciting.  My school doesnt put on performances on such a large scale so its so cool read about yours.

haha no prob. i sometimes forget to reply or don't see emails for weeks even :D i tore a ligament in my left ankle and it took 6 months to be able to walk properly and another 6 to try to dance without pain. so the last year was building strength enough to try to come back to compete. its tough going some days! thanks for the link to your article :) docs told me that its better to break a bone than tear or sprain anything as the healing is actually quicker. :P how much practice do you try a day? i try an hour. some days are good some are bad!

I wanted to leave this comment on your post today but my login isn't working properly at the moment. Anyway ...

I always learn so much from your posts, Shelly! And I think the traditions of the perpetual trophies are wonderful too. At what point is your name engraved on the trophy? Hope you have a great time at Feile Denver.
