Forbes Feis

So I went to the Forbes Feis in Wuincy Massachussetts (my number was 559) I got there with my mom nice and early but had some problems in the parking since the whole first level was reserved as was about half of the second level. But we found a place to park. Then I got there and changed (it was at a high school) the bathrooms were pretty decent compared to the Bremmer Feis. But the school was like a maze lucky for us though there were signs everywhere. I went to my competition but was a…

My dancing life so far........

Ok this is my first time writing a journal entry, so just wanted to test it out. Here is my life of Irish dancing so far................

I love irish dancing! Always have, please God always will! I started very late, at age 10. Everyone from the girls at my dance school to my family just thought, ok, let her try it for a semester (half a year) and then she will quit. Right? WRONG! Before I knew it I was dancing the reel, jig, and slip jig at the Mulvihill-Lynch School…

West Virginia feis results

I got here yesterday evening and we checked in and ate dinner at the lounge. There are so many dancers here- whenever you go down to the lobby all you can here is clicking. My little brother, for reasons unknown, had green food coloring in his back pack which spilled all over his stuff. It caused a little bit of drama. He says it was an accident, but I bet it was an attempt to show Irish spirit...gone wrong. (: It took forever to get to sleep because of my curlers,(and the nerves) but when the… Continue

Hi all

I'm totally not sure how all this works. Had a great turnout last weekend at Olga's. Cairde was a great group and lots of fun. I am hoping they can get in on the Austin Dam Show this year. Lots of room to dance there. Praying for no rain so we are not sticking in the mud.

Feis day comes around again. Hope I wake up in time!!

Feis tomorrow morning, both girls competing (although my 2 year old will just be doing her own skips and sevens!!) Haven't finished work yet, but have spent the majority of the night in between looking after guests trying to find elder daughters pomps and heavies that had gone mssing after practise this afternoon. Finally found them about 20 minutes ago hidden underneath table one!! The poor girl had cried herself to sleep!! The guest sat at the table took it quite well when I dived under the… Continue

Ahh!!

At about midnight last night I opened my closet, and my dress wasn't there. So, for about half an hour, I ran around the house hyper-ventilating and searching for it. Great fun, huh? When I woke up this morning, my first words were-

"Do you know where my dress is?"

My mom: "It's in my car."

"Oh. "

I feel really stupid now....

But, come on! It's my dress! I might need that tomorrow. I think I totally was justified in freaking out. Oh, well. I think I'm gonna get packed and… Continue

and the beat goes on....

Well it's been a busy past month to say the least! Working in IT I've discovered is not necessarily the best place during redundancies. It gets wild depressing. Our department has been kept safe this time round, but we hear, second to HR, which staff are leaving, sometimes before the staff themselves know! It's hard on the heart when it's friends, nature of the beast unfortunately. One of the few things saving…

Almost time....

I had my last class before the feis yesterday, and it went really well. My teacher told me I danced my reel steps the best I ever had, and everything felt really good. I came home somehow even MORE excited because I feel really prepared. I've put in the hours, now all I can do is dance my best Saturday and cross my fingers. Tonight I choreographed an Irish Dance for my school play and taught it to a couple people, which was really fun. Everyone at school and drama is really supportive, they've… Continue

This Sunday!

So, I'm dancing at my class feis (my first competition) this Sunday. My teacher is convinced I'm going to win - he told me the other day that I've got the best foot placement he's ever seen in Irish Dancing.

Big deal, if I freak out in front of people and have a panic attack.

I get really bad stage fright! I want to win - and I know I can. But I'm just so scared...

No pain no gain..and other embarrassing moments.

Still starting out, but now I'm discovering muscles I forgot existed !!
I find the only way to get rid of the ache is to re-stretch the next day. However the pain is not putting me off, as the high after a lesson is absolutely worth every minute of pain!!
Why oh why did I ignore those muscles all those years!! My gluteus maximus tells me off daily for the years of inactivity!! Any suggestions for complimentary exercise (anything but Pilates please- I'm simply not posh enough for…

13 days

I'm counting down.

Got all my toe stands and clicks the other day.

Made me giggle idiotically. Hope it doesn't jinx me.

So, my house is under construction. What does this mean? It means I get my parents' old room when were done.

it also means:

The whole house is now a giant closet.

I can't find my duct tape!!!!!

The garage now resembles a giant tech ed room, so I can't practice there, and couldn't practice hard shoe for two weeks.

I had… Continue

I've just started.....

I've just started ID aged 37!!!
I used to dance ballet for 15 years when I was a child, and watching my 10 year old dance and compete it became unbearable and I had to have a go. I bounced back from my first lesson on a real high- not so high 24 hours later when my legs and bum told me I should have been taking exercise years ago!!
Thing is, I don't think I could put myself through competing. I can't even breath when my daughter is dancing during a feis, and after her…

Me obsesssing

I'm so excited. God, I can't stop thinking about it. I dream about it. The feis. How will I do? I don't know, but that's OK. All I can do is practice and practice and practice. Then, when my legs turn to lead and my throat burns I keep practicing. When I can't move anymore I crawl up from the depths of my basement and collapse with my ipod or stare at Championship videos on Youtube until I am kicked off the computer. Every day I write a number on my hand in sharpie: the number of days until my… Continue
