(Ten of) My Favorite Things

My top ten Irish dance moments...ten among many. You won't "get" some of these if you weren't there, then with the people involved, but what's the harm in posting for memory's sake?

Dance is more than trebles, cuts and leaps. It's more than placings, trophies and medals…

Diddlyi members in Japan

I just noticed that there are a bunch of Diddlyi members in Japan.  I thought it would be a good idea to let them know that we support them and are sending them well wishes from all over the world.  I'm in the US and we have a big Japanese population where I live.

New Guinness World Record: Largest gathering of people dressed as leprechauns

On Thursday, March 17, while most of my friends and colleagues were enjoying the annual St. Patrick’s Day festivities in New York City, I was in Burbank, California for something bigger and better – the largest gathering of people dressed as leprechauns.

The attempt took place on the set of The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, so I…

You'll Soon Forget

You'll soon forget the hours of practise

It took to get that gold

But you'll always remember the triumph

And the joy that was untold

You'll soon forget the endless rehearsals

You attended before the show

But the way the audience cheered at the end

Is what you'll always recall and know

It's worth it a hundred times over

To attend those lessons and train

Because they teach you something

You learn…

Ádh na hEireannach!

My qualification to Worlds this year came as a bit of a miracle.

I had worked very hard leading up to the Oireachtas, but in retrospect, I guess not as hard as I should have.

I was 2 spots away at the 2010 ECR Oireachtas (8th place) from WQ. I worked really hard to go to…

Save Irelands' forests!

Hey there,

I just came across an article at Irish Music Forever [http://www.irishmusicforever.com/general/christy-moore-backs-forest-campaign] which featured Irish singer Christy Moore backing a campaign to save Irelands' forests:

"The campaign, led Andrew St Ledger, fears that the national forests could be a risk if they are sold to a Swiss company and possibly other private… Continue

"Diaspora"

The crops wither in the fields

Blight stealing a way of life

Children who should never know hunger

Stare sadly at the barren ground

A last song, a last dance

Before the young ones depart

The mothers cry, the fathers look away

Knowing they will never see their children again

The land withers as her children depart

Dying, from the fields to the home

As the people are ripped apart

Some to leave, others to remain

A generation grows up… Continue

Vegan Irish Dance Shoes

Hi there,

I'm new to the Diddlyi, so 'hello' to all of you!

Though I started Irish Dancing just some months ago, I've been looking for vegan hard and soft shoes for years now and unfortunately haven't been able to find any or even to find any manufacturer who would try out any of the fine vegan fake leather varieties available.

Did anyone here ever hear of soft and/or hard shoes made without leather?

I'd be really happy to find…

Operation St. Patrick's Day

Hi, everyone! It's been a while since my last blog post. Two feisanna have come and gone, with no more scheduled until early May, and our fabulously successful Las Vegas-themed fundraiser was staged mid-February.

Our attention now turns to a…

Do you need a "Get out of School Free" card for Saint Patrick's Day?

Ok, you've used the grandmother's funeral excuse six times already this year to get out of school for Irish dance competitions and shows and are now looking for a "new and improved" excuse for once again pulling your dancer out for"Saint Patrick's Day"?

Fear not...

Tell Us What You're Doing For St. Patrick's Day

It's March 1st and that means that St. Patrick's Day is just a few weeks ago.  As Irish dancers, musicians, and fans, this is certainly a busy time of year for most of us.

How will you celebrate March 17th?
