God Bless Mrs. Mary McCarthy-Felton, Felton School of Irish Dancing!
I managed to break my foot during the competition (cow!) and she took me to hospital and spent three hours there with me cheering me up and doing everything for me instead of watching her daughter placing first, and instead of having rest after the feis and instead of everything else.
I really don't know how to express what I feel. I am grateful and touched because it is exciting of course to be wrapped in plaster… Continue

I've gone and attended my first feis this year and did surprisingly well. I received four 1st's, a 2nd and two 4th's. While I was there, I took the opportunity to get a new wig. It's the new Colleen wig, alas, pictures have been posted!

Feis America is also at the East Lyme Middle School and Niantic Center School libraries. Anyone who wants a copy for their town or school library, please just ask me and I can send it to you. Considering how many dancers there are in New England, there are an awful lot of people who don't know the breadth and depth of the passion! Thanks!

Last night I went to my first champ class! The doctors let me leave early from work just so I could go, too :) I must say the 2.5 hour class hurts a lot more than the 1.5 hour class but I got sooo much done! I worked on my slip jig a little and learned a whole new treble jig. Before I left class I could do right and left foot to music! Hooray! I'm considering doing it at the Ryan feis on Saturday. That way I wouldn't have to do the novice treble jig step that the 8 year olds do. Or I could just… Continue

My background is in writing, marketing, editing, business development and strategic planning. I am 3rd generation Irish American and both my daughters dance in Connecticut for Maura Gray of the Gray-Gillan-Owens School of ID. I started FA because I was disappointed in the options for Irish dancers with regard to magazines - my girls are both great lovers of books. 18 months later, here I am, with a great creative team and a hugely supportive audience across North America - of all ages! You can… Continue

I wonder which formation is oficiallly correct:
1. In Milano, 2008, we danced The Humors of Bandon, leading boy wore a number and leading couple stood to the left from the judge. This was marked as a mistake, mentioning that leading boy should stand near the judge, i.e. the leading couple stands to the right.
2. In Moscow, 2008, we decided not to repeat the same mistake and prepared to stand the way we were taught by the judge in Milano. But right before the dance we were… Continue

To start with, I NEVER dreamed anything could surpass my Houston experience! I am here to say I was completely wrong!!!
There are three phrases that will FOREVER be linked in my mind and heart with the High Kings and the "King's Court" - "Kick-Ass" and "YEEEHAAAWW" (thank you Brian for the later!!). The audience was ready for a "Kick-Ass Show" and the High Kings were ready to deliver a "Kick-Ass Show"!!!! And what a PHENOMINAL job they did!!!!!
The energy coming from the… Continue

In America, yes they do. They don't just do ceili and set dancing; they also do stepdancing.
When I started dancing, I really thought I was going to do ceili, but my school also offered stepdancing, so I took both classes. I had a 150-mile round trip, so I figured I should make it worth my while. I never thought that I would wind up competing in Irish dancing. I thought it would be a nice fun, social, thing. Which it is, but competition can also be fun.
Many of the adults… Continue

Is it possible for any High Kings show to be put into words? What about your FIRST High Kings show???
It has been four days since the Houston show. I am still struggling – words escape me!! To experience the High Kings from the FRONT ROW was FANTASTIC!!! From the moment Brian, Darren, Finbarr, and Martin stepped onto the stage, I was in AWE!!! "Rocky Road to Dublin" was AMAZING! "Fields of Glory" was even more overwhelming in person!! "Whiskey in the Jar" had us stomping our feet and… Continue

Shannon and I had the pleasure of meeting these wonderful men – no 'Kings'. We were part of the PBS Meet & Greet in Houston, TX. You could feel the excitement building as we waited for Darren, Brian, Martin, and Finbarr to enter the room; the buzz of the crowd grew with each passing moment.
FINALLY...there they were!!! Shannon looked up at me with this huge grin and said, "WOW! AWESOME!!"
We had the pleasure of meeting Brian and Finbarr first. They talked with Shannon… Continue
