I started at beginner, but at 38 decided that competing at primary level avoided having to dnace with quite so many 12 year olds!! Although I still regularly dance against 14 year olds. I just get on with it- off putting though when they treat you like their mum and ask what steps to do for the light jig!!!!!!!

Yes, I'm 19 and still novice in about half my dances.

I can understand that you feel a bit odd among the little ones, but since you are older, physically stronger and probably very motivated I think it's likely that you will progress very fast through the lower levels. Even in the next level up you will find many more dancers your age. Persevere now, and soon you'll feel much more at home. Good luck!

Well, I started when I was thirteen and didn't compete till I was fourteen, and generally where I am they don't have Beginner (Novice) for my age group except at really big feisanna, so I just had to go into Primary.
