Diddlyi Irish Dance and Music

Yo everyone,

So today is Friday and it has been a busy few days. The first two days relaxing in the sun was definitely a good preparation for Wednesday and Thursdays busy rehearsal schedule. By Wednesday the full troupe, singers and band had arrived in Cairo and it was time to be taken off the where we would be perform. We got on the bus at about 6pm which brought us through the crazy traffic of Giza to the venue. The bus drove us right up to the pyramids and then to the stage which is right in front of them. We managed to take a few snaps before the sun quickly set over the desert and then it was our time on stage to run through the dances and give the technicians time for lighting and sound checks. There was a lot of waiting around as is always the case but we didnt mind as we got to sit and gaze at the Pyramids that are lit up by night. After a long evening we finally boarded the bus at about 12.30am which brought us back to our hotel and back to our beds. We were told the next day was going to be tough so we all headed to bed and resisted the temptation of partying in the hotels very own nightclub, plenty of time for partying another night...

Next day we started off at 12pm in a conference room in the hotel drilling the dances for a good 3 and a half hours before the band and singers joined us for a few full run throughs of the show until 6pm. We then had about an hour to get some dinner before the bus took us back to the stage by the pyramids for lots of sound and lighting checks and a full run through of the show. After such a long day most of us were sleeping backstage in between dances and at about 1.30am the bus took us back to the hotel for another early night.

Its now Friday and we are free until 7pm when we will be taking the bus once more for the show which is tonight. Some people have taken the time off to go and see some sights and the rest, like me, are taking time to relax by the pool :-) Tomorrow I have all day free so that will be my chance for taking in the sights. Everyone is really looking forward to seeing how Riverdance will go down in Egypt but I am sure it will be great! Once the show is done I am sure it will be party central here in the Sofitel Giza, we have even been invited to a party at the Irish embassy tomorrow night which, I am sure, will be a great chance for us to chill out with a few drinks and recap on the weeks events!

So, now I have an appointement with a deck chair by the pool, hope you are all doing well and I will report back soon!

Ciao!

Shane

PS; unfortunately I cant upload any pictures from here but I will put loads up when I am back :-)
