Many Irish children will get a chance to learn a musical instrument thanks to the generosity of the biggest band in the world
have committed 5m euro to the project which will also benefit from a further 2m euro being raised by The Ireland Funds
The project will be run by Ireland's Music Network
, a non-profit music services organisation and will be delivered from 2010 - 2015. The aim is to provide young people in Ireland with better opportunities to learn and afford tuition
This is an admirable move by U2 who have often spoken of their heavy involvement with music when they were young and growing up in Dublin's Northside. It is especially required now as we enter a seemingly bleak economic time for Ireland. I get the feeling from recent activity in the Government that the Arts will not be a priority in the coming years.
What do you think of this? Does U2 need to do this, are they doing enough?
