Comment by Em M. on June 20, 2011 at 3:03pm turnout comes from the hip. when you dance try to really turn your hip out. you need to have flexible hip muscles but they must also be strong. if they are not strong you will not be able to hold the position.
an exercise i do is:
stand in front of a mirror with your feet crossed (right foot in front)
very slowly begin to point your toes and push your foot out (just point your foot in front of you)
now turn your hip out and watch you knee and foot turn out as well. do that slowly!!
hold that position with your leg turned out as far as it can go for 30 seconds. tense all of the muscles in your leg, hip, foot, and bottom to really feel a burn
now slowly bring your foot back in.
repeat multiple times on both right and left
this is also great for strengthening your pointing.
if that made no sense sorry :D i can try to explain it a different way if needed :D
